Pharmacy First
We have launched a new NHS-funded service called Pharmacy First which enables us to treat seven common conditions rather than having to visit your GP practice. You will have a free-of-charge consultation with our trained pharmacists who will be able to supply prescription-only medicines if eligible.
What conditions are eligible?
Condition | Age |
Acute Ear Infection | 1-17 years |
Acute Sinusitis | 12+ years |
Acute Sore Throat | 5+ years |
Impetigo | 1+ years |
Infected insect bites | 1+ years |
Shingles | 18+ years |
Uncomplicated Urinary Tract infections (UTIs) in women | 16-64 years |
Will I need to book an appointment?
This is a walk-in service and there is no requirement to book appointments for pharmacy first. However, to streamline the service and to avoid waiting, we recommend patients to call us before. By contacting us in advance, we will be able to advise the best time to come for your consultation.
What treatments are available?
There are many treatments available, including antibiotics. However, our highly trained pharmacists shall clinically assess you and if they consider it appropriate, they shall supply you with medicines for one of the seven conditions.
Can anyone in the age groups be eligible for Pharmacy First?
If you are eligible within the age ranges but, fall into other groups for example pregnant or taking medication to suppress your immune system, call us before to ensure you are still eligible for pharmacy first.
Is this a free service?
Yes, the consultation is free with the pharmacist. However, if you are supplied with medication, there will be an NHS prescription fee, just the same as if you went to the GP. The fee will be waived if you have a valid NHS exemption.
